Foster’s Voice Inc. Overview

Founded by Kevin and Jamie Atwood on July 30th, 2017, Foster’s Voice Inc. was established just 9 days after the tragic loss of their son, Foster, to suicide. Their mission has always been clear: to promote awareness, foster action, and provide hope in the realm of mental health. Each year, the foundation has grown, now boasting an annual Foster’s Voice Scholarship and the Foster’s Care Fund. Their primary goal is to break down the stigma associated with mental health. As Kevin describes, the essence of Foster’s Voice is to acknowledge how mental health affects everyone, either positively or negatively. It's crucial for people to feel comfortable seeking help without judgment; otherwise, even the most comprehensive mental health services lose their efficacy.

Conversation with Kevin

In our discussion with Kevin, he shares the profound meaning of Foster’s Voice to him and his family and describes Foster's legacy. Foster was passionate about sports, a huge Chicago Cubs fan, enjoyed working, and cherished human connections. He was charismatic, kind-hearted, and unfortunately faced severe mental health challenges. Awareness of potential mental health warning signs is vital. Changes in appearance or behavior, such as giving away personal possessions, might indicate deteriorating mental health. It's crucial to observe, be vigilant, and initiate a conversation.

Starry Night Gala

Organized by Foster’s Voice in partnership with Gray Matters, the Starry Night Gala is an event that champions the cause. Last year, the gala successfully raised $40,000. This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, November 4th, from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm at the Bettendorf Waterfront Convention Center. Guests can register until October 25th, and the dress code is black tie optional. Importantly, every single dollar raised will be channeled into the Foster Cares fund, which provides complimentary therapy and counseling services for those in financial need. If you think you qualify for free therapy, please reach out to QC Counselor for assistance.
