In this episode of Kunes Car Convos, we spoke with Laura Mahn, the founder and executive director of NEST Cafe in Rock Island, Illinois. Inspired by her experiences as an ordained minister, Laura identified a connection between an individual's financial situation and their food choices. This realization motivated her to open NEST Cafe, a distinctive restaurant that does not have a set price for meals. Instead, customers are encouraged to pay what they can afford, and suggested donations are provided. Additionally, NEST offers numerous volunteer opportunities for those who wish to contribute their time instead of money. Crucially, the cafe is dedicated to ensuring that everyone is welcome, regardless of their financial ability.
On April 11th, 2024 NEST is having it’s 2 year anniversary celebration, from 11-2 and 5-8 local farmers will be selling their produce, there will be giveaways and an incredible menu featuring brisket, vegan tikka masala, and much more! NEST encourages everyone to come and celebrate. For more information about NEST and what you can go here to check out their website.
